Deer in the Forest
Eugen Krüger, 19th centuryFine art reproduction on 200gsm matte paper. A5 to A3, plus 12x16 inches. The moon breaks through the oaks. Far below, a stag lifts his head and listens.
Eugen Krüger painted this moonlit forest in nineteenth-century Germany. Krüger was born in Altona, near Hamburg, in 1832, grew up partly on Jersey, and trained in Düsseldorf, where he became known for paintings of wild animals and their woods.
Here the forest does most of the talking. Old oaks arch over a clearing filled with mist, and the moon glows through the leaves. Look closely at the bottom of the painting. A stag stands in the clearing, antlers raised, and at his feet a small pool catches the moonlight. Krüger also published an album of lithographs called Wild und Wald, game and forest, in 1860. He died in 1876, aged only 44.
The look
Moss green, silver mist and deep shadow with one bright moon. Hushed, mysterious and calm. Moody forest wall art for a dark academia study, a reading room or a cabin-style living room.

This painting stops at A3. Above that size the original photograph loses the fine detail of the brushwork, so the shop does not offer it.
Custom sizes on request. Inch sizes have a slightly different shape from A sizes, so the edges trim a little. Size guide
