Cupid Chastised
Bartolomeo Manfredi, 1613Fine art reproduction on 200gsm matte paper. A5 to A2, plus 12x16 and 18x24 inches.Mars punishes Cupid. Venus tries to stop him. The museum thought it was a Caravaggio.
Bartolomeo Manfredi painted Cupid Chastised in 1613. Mars, god of war, raises his hand to punish Cupid, while Venus throws herself between them. Doves, the birds of Venus, scatter overhead.
Manfredi was one of the closest followers of Caravaggio, using the same dramatic light and shadow. When the Art Institute of Chicago bought the painting in 1947, it believed it was a Caravaggio. It still hangs there today.
The look
Dramatic chiaroscuro, rich reds and deep black shadow. Intense, theatrical and full of movement. Greek mythology wall art suited to a dark academia living room, bedroom or study.

Custom sizes on request. Inch sizes have a slightly different shape from A sizes, so the edges trim a little. Size guide
